Come 'round yer with your big ideas

by Submarine, Thursday 29 July 2010 01:01

Not too many months ago two randoms, Messrs Blake and Torode, walked in off the street to talk to us about ‘marketing’. They had heard we ‘did websites and that’.

Damon Blake ex-financier and Airport Fireman Paul Torode had bought a truck. And they wanted to pick up people’s recycling on a weekly basis.

As the conversation moved on it became reasonably clear that they were passionate about the environment and had big ideas about what they wanted to do for Guernsey; waxing lyrical about their Tonka Toy and how they were going to assist Guernsey in achieving its recycling targets. Ok, we got the idea.

So what’s your name?
- They didn’t have one.

And your business address?
- Nope.

Had they any ideas about the kind of budget they wanted to spend?
- Not really

But you know the inside and outside of the Islands bin sacks?
 - We do know that

They were asking us to help them put an action plan together for their launch in two months time.

They spoke about printed literature and a mail-shot to the Island – we told them to forget it. What about a big radio campaign? – You don’t have the budget. Ok, how about we put some ads in the GP?  - See previous response.

Have you thought about Social Media?
 << blank stares>>

Do you have a Facebook account?
 - My brother has!

Cutting a long story short we were back where we, as Submarine, had come from; two blokes with an idea and a dream – so how could we resist?

We suggested embarking on a simple Social Media campaign. Strategically the logos and design had to be light, bright and fun. The tone of the Facebook page had to be professional but engaging.  Within 3 weeks, the logo was designed, the website was built, the plan was in place and Wecycle had over 1000 fans on their Facebook page.

Made up statistic:
67% of Guernsey women recycle
67% of Guernseymen drive to recycling centres – on their own!

It’s August 2010; over the next few weeks you’ll start seeing some cheesy grinning clients of ours driving the streets of Guernsey with their shiny new truck providing what is a fantastic service to the Guernsey householder.

They did ‘come round ‘ere with their big ideas’ and we’re happy to say we helped them on their path.

Guernsey Restaurants - Map

by Administrator, Wednesday 28 July 2010 18:54

Guernsey is well known as a destination for fresh sea food and top notch eateries.

For a small island in the middle of the English Channel it may be a surprise to most at the standard of restaurants and eateries. The following Guernsey Restaurants map illustrates the establishments from beach kiosks through to formal retaurants.

If you want to buy some chips and watch the sun go down over Cobo, the chippie serves some of the Island's best take out food.

If you are a businessman wanting a formal and quiet meal then the island has a myriad of decent restaurants for you to entertain. Discover the Guernsey restaurants through the Guernsey restaurants Google map

Herm Island Google Map

by Administrator, Wednesday 28 July 2010 18:40

What would Guernsey be without Herm? If you want to know the answer, then just look at Jersey.

There's no doubt that there is a symbiotic relation between the Bailiwick Islands of Guernsey and Jersey; by the grace of each other they go. Herm situated approximately 3 miles East of St Peter Port is the summer playground of Guernsey residents. White coral and shell beaches, family friendly, great food a welcoming staff and team and only 20 minutes by boat from the larger isle. There’s no doubt in anyone’s mind that Herm is probably Northern Europe’s prettiest island and, strangely, best kept secret.

A summer’s day or evening in Herm is equivalent to any Mediterranean destination – trust us, this is not marketing spiel; there simply isn’t a better island destination anywhere in Northern Europe.

Google maps can be a bit quirky, so the development of this map was a bit more…er…..challenging! No roads to snap to – Herm doesn’t have any. The postcode doesn’t appear to exist within Google – I think there’s only one anyway.

So we have done our best to give you a taster of what’s on, in and around the island.
