A website that is promoting information on Guernsey’s diverse business community is witnessing a remarkable level of online traffic.
IFCfeed.com is in its 3rd years and is a collaboration between local businesses recognising the value of working together to report the facts about Guernsey’s diverse offshore business community.
“The site is attracting 30,000 unique users a month and we’re ranking with some of the most common terms used for searching information about international finance. For example, IFCfeed.com is ranking right up there with the likes of Reuters.com and eubankers.net, two of the world’s busiest finance related websites, with search terms such as ‘international finance news’ on Google. This can only be positive news for Guernsey as it tries to differentiate itself from those less well regulated offshore centres” said Submarine Director Neil Inder.
Before the site launched the IFCfeed.com concept was presented to various organisations and associations throughout Guernsey’s business community in order for the team behind the website to gauge opinion and gather support for the project. One such organisation was the Guernsey International Business Association (GIBA).
“It is a changing world in the international offshore finance arena. We are facing greater challenges in the form of EU Savings Directive, the UK Treasury, and the G8 working groups. At the same time, the world continues to internationalise, with companies, business professionals and high net worth individuals increasingly more mobile. Therefore, it is imperative that local government, local regulator and the broad business community work together to educate the island’s detractors and communicate that we are in fact a sophisticated and well regulated international finance centre. IFCfeed.com is a key component in promoting these key messages” said GIBA vice chairman Paul Meader.
Although the concept has been extremely well received in other offshore centres, the site’s editor Jon Taylor, says they have planned its development very carefully.
“It would be easy to launch in every offshore destination but the key to this site is how government, business, industry and regulator working together to present the facts about the jurisdiction. This collaborative approach will not work in every offshore location and we must be careful to select those offshore centres that have similar values and reputation as our own” said Mr Taylor.
